At the first budget hearing over the KSFMO, the Professional Fire Chief’s of Kansas president Chief Jack Taylor testified (with the support of the KSAFC), and asked for the office to remain intact. The members of the Committee asked for a possible job description to be submitted. Attached is a proposed job description that was submitted to the Committee by the Chiefs. It is unknown whether the Committee will accept the idea favorably or not, but it is a start. The next budget hearing is scheduled for the Committee Meeting on November 14th, but I am not sure the time is set. At the last Committee hearing, current State Fire Marshal Terry Maple, testified that the law enforcement community has had a strong voice in Topeka for a long time through several agency directors, and that he felt the Kansas Fire Service deserved the same. I not only agree with his sentiment but also think it is important that we have a strong showing from the fire prevention community to support keeping the KSFMO together.
